Contemporary Arts + Culture Focus| ISRAEL

With our most recent competition and current multi-gallery exhibition highlighting  some of the most talented, rising contemporary Israeli artists throughout the world, we wanted to focus on Israel’s international scope as an innovative leader and creative hub.

From artists, musicians, designers and dancers to technologists, scientists, and entrepreneurs, the aptly named Start-Up Nation is constantly making headlines as a vibrant, diverse, and passionate nation.  Through it all, Israel’s international cultural arts community continues to thrive and inspire.

This year’s Social Network Art Competition partners and participants exemplify the diverse range of talent and background that the global arts scene continues to see from the Israeli diaspora.

SNAC-expo Israel was honored to include Israeli artists like Mosh Kashi, Elad Kopler, Ra Djan, and Yuri Tabachnik as part of our International Curating Board for this year’s competition.

Many of the SNAC-expo Award Winners were graduates of Israel’s internationally acclaimed art, design, technology and engineering programs, including Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, ShenkarHa Midrasha, AvniHebrew University of JerusalemHolon Institute of Technology and Technion.

As well as attracting some of the world’s most prominent performers like Justin Timberlake and Lady Gaga, Israeli musicians have been making the rounds on their international tours.

Artists like The Idan Raichel Project and Rita have been instrumental in evolving Israeli popular music, transcending cultural boundaries and collaborating with other revolutionary musicians throughout the global community.

Recognized by the World Academy of Arts, Literature and Media (WAALM) for her groundbreaking work as an actress and pop singer, Rita sang in both Hebrew and Persian in an unprecedented performance at the United Nations General Assembly Hall in 2013.

Idan Raichel recently performed in San Francisco as part of The Touré-Raichel Collective’s tour which will be heading to New York’s Beacon Theater in April of 2015.

While jetsetting art, architecture and fashion fans flock to Tel Aviv’s Dizengoff Street and Gan Hachashmal, or to Haifa, Eilat and Jaffa for galleries and boutiques, Israelis have found a place in world’s most elite fashion and art events.  Internationally acclaimed, Israeli American New York based fashion designer, Yigal Azrouel is one of the most recognizable names in the fashion industry.  Shenkar’s Department of Fashion Design is among the leading schools of fashion worldwide and attracts talent from all over.

Israel has long held prominence in the international Dance community.  The Batsheva Dance Company, under the direction of preeminent contemporary choreographer, Ohad Naharin, has transformed modern dance.  Batsheva was founded in 1964 by the Baroness Batsheva de Rothschild,  and credits the inimitable Martha Graham as its first artistic adviser.  They recently performed at Yerba Buena Center for the Arts Theater here in San Francisco as part of their 2014-2015 international tour.
